When deciding on something, one may not necessarily have the facts where one can base a good decision. But common sense dictates that there will always be a best and wise decision.
One may be intelligent and that intelligence may have been academically acquired. But the problem with that so-called intelligence is that the senses that have been used to acquire them are limited. Therefore being limited in nature, the result will also be limited or imperfect.
Look at how imperfect the so-called knowledge-acquiring senses are. The eyes cannot see what is beyond the wall. A blindfolded man may touch a rope and think it a snake. A man with colds may not be able to smell the sweetness of the rose. The ear cannot hear certain sound frequency ranges.
Remember when the time people were thinking that the earth was flat and it is the center of the universe? Notice how the person watching two chess players know better than the players themselves? One reason is that the person watching is detached from whoever will win the game.
This spirit of detachment allows the clouds in the mind to clear up and thus the inner knowledge of the subconscious manifests. One cannot clearly think when one is angry. And what more if one is full of hate or anxiety. The wise men of the east teach that to arrive at a wise decision, one must have a compose tranquil mind.
Being still and compose is hard to do. But the masters of yoga, Tai Chi and Kung Fu can give us ideas on how to achieve this composure. Notice how a newborn baby breathe? Slowly their abdomen would go up or expand on an inhalation and then goes down on an exhalation. In Tai Chi, the hand pushes out on an exhale. In yoga, one exhale as one bends forward. And this is done by contracting the abdomen on an exhale and expanding on an inhale as one goes out of the pose. It is said that chi or prana is generated by this process. This prana (Sanskrit) or chi (Chinese) is the inner energy that brings vigor to the body and calmness in the mind.
You can achieve that too. Try sitting comfortably on your favorite chair and take your shoes off. Turn your cell phone on silent mode and dim the light a little bit. Place your hands on top of your abdomen somewhere by the area of your navel. Let your fingertips touch lightly. Now slowly inhale and consciously expand your abdomen, while counting One, Two. Then gently let it fall on exhale, counting one to five, six or seven. Exhalation is prolonged than inhalation. It may be difficult in the beginning because we have outgrown the way we use to breathe like the baby. In Sanskrit this procedure is called Pranayama. We can teach our body to regain that forgotten nature.
Let the baby grasp your finger and gently pull it away. Notice the strength of the baby? Gentle, smiling relax yet powerfully holding. You can attain that too. And when you are still, compose and relax, your mind responds the same. When the turbulent waves of the mind are stilled, the clear bottom of the mind will manifest. It is said that we are only using 10% of our brain and the 90% is in the subconscious. That clear images in the inner consciousness will allow you to arrive a wise decision and give you wise thinking.
